Shoya Tomizawa is killed during the 2010 Gran Premio Aperol di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini. During the Moto2 race, supporting event of the San Marino Grand Prix, 12th round of the 2010 MotoGP World Championship. Tomizawa was dicing for positions mid-pack with Jules Cluzel, Julian Simon, Simone Corsi, Alex de Angelis, Scott Redding and others. At the exit of the right-hand Curvone, the fastest corner of the track, on 12th lap Tomizawa lost grip in his rear tyre when it went in the synthetic grass on the verge of the bend, causing him to lose control of the bike. He suddenly fell down and was then hit by two motocycles that closely followed him, at a speed of about 240 km/h. Alex de Angelis first and Scott Redding could do nothing to avoid Tomizawa's body sliding on the track and crashed into him. Shoya Tomizawa suffered massive cranial, thoracic and abdominal trauma.
