I have been having issues with my oil getting dirty very quickly in my 90 TSI. On E85 I was having to change the oil every 1.5k miles do to it smelling like a strong alcoholic drink. This was killing my bearings and piston pins, so I thought I'd check my crank case to see what was going on. I installed a cheap boost gauge in my oil fill cap to see what was the deal with my crank case as to why the PCV system wasn't doing it's job of keeping the oil clean. To my shock I found that I was getting up to 4PSI of pressure while doing a 3rd gear pull! I also found that there was virtually no vac in the crank case while idling and cruising due to the fact that I had an open vent catch can which many DSMers use. What I found is in this vid. If you are using a catch can off of your stock valve cover ports, you are killing your engine! Take that POS out of there and run the PCV system as it was designed to work! Have any questions?
