NHRA National Open 2009

NHRA comes to Portland for a second year with a full Div. 6 schedule of Sportsman Racing.

NHRA makes their second visit to Portland International Raceway in the last 25 years or so. Division 6 cars run un-capped for 3 days of action. We see Stock/Super Stock/Mod, Pro and SuperPro, Super Gas, Super Street and Super Comp.................................... For over twenty years the Indy Car Racing had been solidly entrenched with their annual 3 day event at PIR. But times change and they went away along with their primary event sponsor, G.I. Joes (sold off and then bankrupted). In their place NHRA finally made its return in late August, using the noise variance that would now allow the open headers of NHRA as opposed to the screeching Indy Car engines. A welcome change of events for most Drag Racers who care little of Indy Cars.
