Gaddafi Designs A Car

Raw : In a week of events designed to celebrate Muammar Gaddafi's 40 years in power, the Libyan leader has also announced a new role for himself - car designer.

Two prototypes of "The Rocket" designed by the self-proclaimed "king of kings" were displayed to the public late Monday at the end of an African Union summit in Tripoli called to seek solutions to Africa's problems and mark the anniversary of Colonel Gaddafi's coup in 1969.

With its design based on that of a small boat "for maximum security", the car has been financed with Libyan capital and built by Italian constructor Tesco TS.

A member of the Italian team involved said the vehicle prototype "would have cost in the E2 million ($A3.4 million) range".

According to a brochure handed to journalists, the "Tesco TS technical team followed to the letter the ideas of the designer, the leader (Gaddafi) to produce the perfect car according to the leader's vision".
